On Friday, the United States launched retaliatory strikes on Iranian-backed militants in Iraq and Syria in response to the drone attack that killed three US servicemembers in Jordan, according to the Washington Post.

The Biden administration has blamed Iran for a spike in militant violence throughout the Middle East, including the drone attack at a remote outpost in Jordan on Sunday.

The attack killed Specialist Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, of Waycross, Georgia, Sergeant William Jerome Rivers, 46, of Carrollton, Georgia, and Specialist Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, of Savannah, Georgia.

The operation on Friday seemed to signal the start of what officials have said would be a multiday campaign against various targets near Iran.
