“It seems quite clear the bus operators are finding a way to thwart the requirements of the Executive Order by dropping migrants at the train station in Secaucus and having them continue to their final destination,” Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli said in a statement on Sunday.

He suggested that perhaps Adams’ requirements were “too stringent,” and that they are “resulting in unexpected consequences” as bus companies “have figured out a loophole in the system in order to ensure the migrants reach their final destination, which is New York City.”

“Based on reports from the State Police,” he added, “this is now happening at train stations throughout the state.”

As Politico reports, mayors of other towns and cities that border the Hudson have received reports of busses full of migrants pulling into their stations.

In a statement to the outlet, a spokesman for Adams took aim at Texas Governor Greg Abbott, accusing him of “dropping families off in surrounding cities and states in the cold, dark of night with train tickets to travel to New York City, just like he has been doing in Chicago in response to their similar executive order.”

While New Jersey was not mentioned by name, the spokesman said that the administration was “coordinating with surrounding cities and counties … to encourage them to take similar executive action to protect migrants against this cruelty.”
