A retired Washington, DC police lieutenant shot and killed a fellow officer during a Thursday training session at a library, police said.
In a press conference following the incident that afternoon, Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee said the shooting occurred in the city’s Anacostia Library.
Maurica Manyan, 25, of Indian Head, Maryland was the public library special police officer who was allegedly shot by former lieutenant Jesse Porter, 58, causing her death. Porter has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, police told NBC News4.
Porter was conducting training on how to properly use an extended baton at the time of the shooting and the Maryland Police Department is currently working with the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia to find out exactly how Manyan was shot.
