House GOP launch official probe into Biden's botched Afghanistan withdrawal

The chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Republican Rep. Michael McCaul from Texas, has launched a probe into Joe Biden’s botched withdrawal of the American military from Afghanistan in August of 2021 and sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday requesting information on what happened behind-the-scenes at the White House.

According to The Hill, McCaul said in a statement, “It is absurd and disgraceful that the Biden administration has repeatedly denied our longstanding oversight requests and continues to withhold information related to the withdrawal.”

“In the event of continued noncompliance, the Committee will use the authorities available to it to enforce these requests as necessary, including through a compulsory process,” McCaul added.

Blinken has been asked to hand over internal communications with the Afghan government and the Taliban as well as intelligence assessments and documents. Though Biden had been asked for the materials in the past, McCaul’s probe is a formal request for compliance and has given Biden a January 26 deadline.

“We owe this to the American people, especially our service members and veterans,” McCaul said.
