At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on March 1, Attorney General Merrick Garland faced pressing questions from lawmakers as to whether the law has been applied equally across political ideologies. Senators asked Garland about the decision not to prosecute people who protested outside of Supreme Court Justices’ homes after the overturning of Roe v. Wade and how the Justice Department is handling the fentanyl crisis.

In the high-profile murder case against prominent former South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh, the prosecution laid out an hours-long closing argument after six weeks of testimony.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine visited the site of the train derailment to check on the removal of hazardous waste. His visit to East Palestine comes as scientists say air tests are showing an unusually high amount of chemicals.

Chicago’s mayoral election will be heading to a runoff after incumbent Mayor Lori Lightfoot lost her reelection bid in a landslide.
