Pittsburgh Public Schools announced Thursday night that they are requiring masks again beginning Friday.
The district made the announcement in a Facebook post which read, “Allegheny County has reached the MEDIUM COVID-19 Community Level. Effective tomorrow, Friday, May 13, 2022, all students, employees, and visitors are required to wear a mask while inside a school or district facility. #PPSStayInformed“
The majority of parents and community members on the thread slammed the decision. Only a few hours earlier, Allgheny County was at the LOW Community Level.
According to a health and safety plan approved by the school board last month, masks are required in all of the district’s facilities when Allegheny County’s COVID-19 community level is “medium” or “high.” Masks are optional when the community level is “low.”
The new policy went into effect on April 29.
