A Minneapolis man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a trans-identified male after the two engaged in sexual acts in a courtyard.

Damarean Kayon Bible, 25, was charged by the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office with the November 29th fatal shooting of trans-identified male Savannah Ryan Williams, 38, according to the Star Tribune.

Surveillance footage reportedly showed Williams and Bible walking towards the area where the shooting took place at 5 am, with Bible leaving the area alone at around 5:45 am. Witnesses said they heard a gunshot from the area, and that they saw a man around that time walking north from the area along 4th Avenue toward Lake Street.

Bible was seen heading toward the Lake Street light rail station, where he rode a train downtown and got off at the Nicollet/5th Street Station. Bible then walked to an apartment building at 95 S 10th St, where investigators later showed a photograph of Bible to the building’s management, who identified the suspect. Bible was arrested as he left the building.

Bible reportedly denied being involved in the shooting, but admitted to the act after being shown video evidence.

He told investigators that when he walked past the bus shelter on Lake Street, where Williams was sitting, Williams asked if Bible wanted sex. They went to a nearby courtyard, where Bible said he began to feel “suspicious” of Williams. Bible told investigators he had a 9mm handgun in his pocket, and shot Williams after the two engaged in a sexual act.

Officers responded to the area of 3023 4th Ave. S to reports of a person not breathing in a courtyard.
