Ottawa teacher convicted of sex crimes against seven girls gets 15-month sentence

Former Ottawa teacher Majed Turk has been sentenced after pleading guilty in February to sex crimes against high school students aged 14 to 17.

The teacher has been sentenced to 15 months in jail for luring, sexual interference, sex assault and criminal harassment, the Ottawa Sun reports.

Turk will be eligible for parole after seven and a half months, as per Ontario law.

Turk will also not be able to access parks, pools, and schools, and he will not be able to communicate with people under 16. He will also be added to the sex offender registry for life, and will no longer be allowed to own weapons.

Reports of Turk’s actions were mentioned in court. The Ottawa Sun reports that one student started wearing baggy clothes to conceal her body so that Turk would not prey on her. She was 14.
