POLL: Trump leads DeSantis 55% to 25% in latest Emerson tally

A new poll has revealed that more than half of Republican primary voters prefer former President Donald Trump as their 2024 presidential nominee over other potential candidates.

The poll from Emerson College Polling revealed that the majority of GOP primary voters, 55 percent, preferred Trump to be their candidate. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis came in second, garnering 25 percent of responses. This is down from January, which saw DeSantis holding 29 percent of support. 

Former Vice President Mike Pence received 8 percent of support, while former US Ambassador Nikki Haley received 5 percent, with support for both increasing by two percent since January.

Additionally, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and former Governor of Maryland Lary Hogan received 1 percent support, with New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu receiving less than one percent. 4 percent of respondents stated that they would choose someone else.

Of those that have announced their run for Republican presidential nominee, 78.5 percent said they would for Trump, 17.9 percent said they would vote for Haley, and 3.7 percent said they would vote for entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy
