Trump blows away GOP field with 50-point lead, Haley ties with DeSantis for second place: RealClearPolling

As the election year officially began on Monday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley are now tied for second place far behind Donald Trump for the Republican nomination.

According to the RealClearPolling average of polls conducted during much of the month of December, Trump is by and far the leader, with 62.5 percent support.

DeSantis and Haley sit over 50 points behind the former president with 11.2 percent support. The average was taken of polls conducted between December 4 and December 29.

Polls taken into this average include Reuters/Ipsos, Morning Consult, and Quinnipiac, which show DeSantis and Haley tied for second place with 11 percent support.

Some of these polls though showed Haley taking second place, with a USA Today/Suffolk poll showing DeSantis behind Haley by three points, a Rasmussen Reports poll showing DeSantis down by four points, a New York Times/Sienna poll placing DeSantis two points behind Haley, and an Emerson poll placing DeSantis seven points behind Haley and closer to other field mates Vivek Ramaswamy and Chris Christie.

This comes as the 2024 election year has arrived, with the Iowa caucus taking place in just two weeks on January 15. New Hampshire’s primary election will take place just over a week later, on January 23.
