On Friday, two women pleaded guilty to hate crime charges in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, after they attacked two Muslim women at Cathedral Square Park and removed their hijabs in July.
According to Fox 6, Miracle Reed was charged with felony substantial battery as a hate crime, disorder conduct, and misdemeanor bail jumping. She pleaded guilty to all accounts.
The second woman, Payton Smith, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor battery as a hate crime. She pleaded guilty to both, while a disorderly conduct charge was dismissed against her.
The criminal complaint against the two women said that the victims were “minding their own business” and praying at the park when Smith asked, “So what’s the problem?” followed by where they were from.
It was then that Smith allegedly asked Reed, “you ready?” before they began punching the two women, and eventually removed their hijabs.
In August, the victims told CBS 58 that when the two women approached their picnic table and asked if there was a problem, she responded, “‘There is no problem between us, what is the problem?” She added, “And she goes, ‘Where are you from?’ And I told her it was none of her business because she clearly wasn’t trying to have a conversation about where I’m truly from.”
Cellphone video shows that the attack lasted about 5 minutes before an older man came and broke it up. Witnesses on the scene identified the two women as the aggressors when police arrived.
